Active Friendship Club

Older people keep active and meet friends at weekly Active Friendship Club

The club meets every Wednesday afternoon at Pelhams Park Leisure Centre, and offers a great opportunity for older people to enjoy an activity session with a qualified instructor, as well as a free swim session, refreshments and a catch up with friends.

Brendoncare already run sixteen friendship and wellbeing clubs for older people across Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset but this is the first Brendoncare Club dedicated to making an active lifestyle fun.

Tony Hanson, Branch Manager of Brendoncare Clubs said: “Growing older does not mean you have to lose strength or your ability to do everyday tasks. Exercise can help older adults feel better and enjoy life more, even those who think they are too old or too out of shape.”

The launch of Brendoncare’s Active Friendship Club has been made possible due to the support of the Dorset Community Foundation.  Brendoncare received a grant from Comic Relief, which aims to empower local people, and enable them to create lasting change in their communities.

Fundraising Manager Laura Luff said: “The generous support of the Dorset Community Foundation and Comic Relief has helped us to give older people an opportunity to take part in activities that are relevant and interesting to them. We hope that the Brendoncare Active Friendship Club is of great benefit to older people in the Kinson area, as well as being great fun.”
